What it is

Hey Steinbach arrives at 6:00 am Central every weekday: what's on today and this weekend, what's opening and closing, what council decided, road and safety notices, and links to the local newsrooms' stories. It's free, and it takes about three minutes to read.

It covers Steinbach first, then the RM of Hanover (Mitchell, Blumenort, Grunthal, Kleefeld) and La Broquerie.

Who publishes it

Hey Steinbach is published in Steinbach, Manitoba. Write to steinbach@heycity.ca.

It's paid for by local sponsors at flat, published prices. Paid blocks say SPONSORED; the sponsorship disclosure page explains what that means.

How it works

Each issue is put together the evening before from whoever published each fact first: the city, the RCMP, the school division, event organizers and the businesses themselves. Every news item links to its source.

Local news outlets do their own reporting. Hey Steinbach links to their stories with one line in its own words, and never retells them.

Software assembles each issue. An AI model writes the sentences from each source's own text; the dates, times, prices, names and links come from the source, not the model. Photos are real, used with permission and credited. There are no AI-generated images.

Police items are public safety only: scams, road closures, missing persons and safety advisories. There is no crime blotter, and people charged are never named.

Private individuals are named only as organizers, owners or people quoted in a primary source, and only in a neutral or positive item.

Council and government decisions are reported without adjectives. All-candidates forums are listed; campaign events are not. There are no endorsements.

Corrections

When a fact is wrong, the correction runs at the top of the next issue and on the web archive, with a note saying what changed.
